== LocalSpellingWords == A group of about 15 (so far) APL users have started meeting once a month or so in London at the Edgar Wallace pub in the afternoon. I have no idea where to put this. All I want is for someone to tell me what LocalSpellingWords is all about. Would someone please replace this question with an answer either here or somewhere more appropriate. (PhilLast 2008-05-17 08:43) I think the aims, records and announcements of these meetings would be more manageable if they were kept here, perhaps with the archive of past meetings being kept at BAA London as files. One advantage would be that we could jointly edit the documents without the "full audit" style of additional comments posted to to threads in groups. We could have three pages here BAALondonMeetings, BAALondonNextMeeting, BAALondonLastMeeting. Does this sound like a good idea?

Ellis - I run a monthly group here in New York City for J called NYCJUG (NYC J-Users Group): see http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/NYCJUG to see how we use the J wiki to post notices and meeting notes. Also, it wouldn't hurt to send a message to general@jsoftware.com to ask about posting meeting notices there (as long as you're not worried about possible infection.)

This is the best place for such a question! Also, you might want to list on Gary's Guide: http://www.garysguide.org/ and any other general, technical lists for your area of which you may be aware.

!LocalSpellingWords is a page which simply lists words taken into account by the (very basic) spell checker !MoinMoin comes with. !MoinMoin simply marks all words on the page to be checked it cannot find on !LocalSpellingWords - that's it. It is available only when a page is edited. Good luck!

Note that plugging !LocalSpellingWords into the search box and then pressing the "Titles" button would display only that page itself. However, pressing the "Text" button instead would result in a link list that contains among others a link to the "HelpOnSpellCheck" which would explain a bit more. DevonMcCormick

With reference to the main thesis of [[Studio/FunWithText|FunWithText]] it crossed my mind that perhaps it was the other way round and that it was in fact King David, God's amanuensis for the writing of the psalms, who also wrote Shakespeare.

It would be nice to post a copy of the Yale APL Idiom List as a proper set of Wiki pages rather than a scanned PDF, since this would allow cut-and-paste. Does anyone know (a) whether there still exists a copy of the idioms in text form, and (b) whether we'd need to seek permission to do this?

 * add JWiki (http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki) to the InterWiki list I'm working on a web page commemorating Ken's Turing award and am wondering if anyone has a copy of his lecture in a text format; i.e. not the PDF of images from the 1981 issue of Communications of the ACM, which I have.

I'm currently typing it in but it's going to take a while. Fortunately, for the web page, I'll initially need only the introductory section, which I've already entered. Part of the difficulty of entering it is the APL character set (surprise) but I've decided that the APL385 Unicode font will do for this. Interestingly, one of the first "special" characters was _not_ a standard APL one - it's the double-headed arrow for "equivalence".

In any case, I would like to get the whole lecture up in a more searchable form.

Thanks,

I am posting pointers to the BAA London group here, at CLA (computer.language.apl NewsGroup), and at the Dyalog Users Group. Are there other places I should consider?
