BAA London

Introduction

BAA London is a discussion group about APL which meets monthly in London. It is loosely affiliated to the British APL Association (BAA) but you don't have to be a member of the BAA to come to the meetings. Visitors to London and strangers to APL and its dialects are always welcome at our meetings.

We have only held four meetings so far and we are still deciding what it is we want to do and how to do it. Go to RunningBAAlondon if you want to follow the discussions about how we should do it.

Next Meeting

The fifth meeting is on Friday 27 March 2009 at the Edgar Wallace. Most of us meet at 2pm in the bar downstairs and move upstairs for the meeting just before 3pm.
The Edgar Wallace is at 40 Essex Street,London WC2R 3JF click here for full venue details. Among the guest beers being served on 4 March are Bowman Swift One and Buffys Norwegian Blue.

Agenda

The March meeting will start at 3pm with Phil Last using the large screen to give a ten minute demonstration of his APL repository.
Discussions about how the rest of the meeting should continue are still going on at BAALondon GoogleGroup in the thread "Next and Last Meetings". If you have a topic that you think would make a good subject for a ten minute talk go there and tell us, whether it is something you want to hear about or something you want to say. Or just email your ideas and questions to me <wiki AT SPAMFREE ellismorgan DOT co DOT uk>.
This "theme free" meeting will give you a good opportunity to spend time talking to the people you have really come to meet.

Publicity

Before each meeting we ask a group member to post its details in the following places:

here

BAALondon Google Group

usergroup comp.lang.apl

the dyalog usersgroup

the vector website

continued here

Members are encouraged to do the same in places we may not otherwise think of, and to post links to the WIKI there too. To avoid duplication this is where I know links have been put:

Gary's guide

Add your name

Members who are able to do so are invited to add their names here. To do so you need to be a member of the WIKI in the trusted group. If you would like me to add your name without joining, just send me an email <wiki AT SPAMFREE ellismorgan DOT co DOT uk>. You are also welcome to email me if you want to do it yourself but can not find the help you need. That will test my WIKI skills, but before you do take a look here HelpForBeginners.

Previous meetings

Baal0811

The first meeting had no theme and was a number of varying small groups discussing in different corners of the room.

Baal0812

Was combined with a Christmas party and no minutes were kept.

Baal0901

Started with no theme, but we moved to holding a single meeting to discuss how we should organise ourselves.

Baal0902

The theme was Education in APL.

Critique

This page was created by EllisMorgan, starting on 3 March 2009. It is the first WIKI page of any size I have created and I am learning as I go along. If you see anything you think can be improved, just go ahead and do it. But if your changes amount to a sizeable redesign and overhaul it might be polite to leave some reasons for your actions here. In any event please use the comment field provided with the editor so we can see what is happening from the page's "info" button.

Design Decisions

For example, in the Previous meetings section should I explain that the blue Baalxxxx entries are links to full minutes of each meeting and that their name tells you the month and year of the meeting? My view is that it is very obvious and when you link to the minutes there is more than enough detail there.

Keep it short

Maintaining this WIKI page is a good subject for "how we run the group", so if you want to start a lengthy discussion about it, please move to BAALondon GoogleGroup or RunningBaaLondon.
